MSMGF commends the Global Network of People Living with HIV (GNP+) in appointing Dr. Laurel Sprague as its new Executive Director. GNP+ is a global network for and by people living with HIV advocating for, and supporting fair and equal access to treatment, care and support services for people living with HIV around the world.
The MSMGF team shares a longstanding collaboration with Dr. Sprague in organizing HIV activism and policy change at the global-level. Over the years, we have witnessed Dr. Sprague’s fierce activism, anchored in the needs of marginalized and vulnerable populations worldwide especially LGBT people, sex workers and people who use drugs.
MSMGF’s Executive Director Dr. George Ayala said,
“We are delighted that the GNP+ Board has identified Dr. Laurel Sprague to lead the newly developed GNP+ strategic vision into 2017 and beyond. As the only global network exclusively focused on the health and rights of people living with HIV, this appointment comes at a time when the AIDS movement needs well-coordinated, nuanced and timely advocacy responses at the global level in close partnership with communities most impacted by HIV, including networks of key populations.”
Since its inception, MSMGF has worked closely with members of the GNP+ leadership team and network. We are currently partnered on major global advocacy and programmatic initiatives such as the Gay Advocacy Platform, Community Leadership and Action Collaborative (CLAC) and the Dutch-Ministry funded HIV program for key populations, Bridging the Gaps. Across these initiatives and beyond, MSMGF is deeply committed to working with Dr. Sprague and with the GNP+ team to ensure that voices of gay and bisexual men, sex workers and people who use drugs living with HIV are at the front and center of a rapidly changing and evolving global AIDS response.
