The criminalisation of HIV transmission or exposure is the application of the criminal law to prosecute when HIV is passed from one person to another. In England and Wales, more than 10 cases have been prosecuted since 2002 under the Offences Against the Person Act, a ‘catch-all’ law from 1861, for grievous bodily harm.
This film is a commentary from a selection of experts about the criminalisation of HIV transmission in England and Wales. It brings together a selection of policy makers, programmers, advocates, academics and people living with HIV to inform the public debate.
