Commercial sex workers in Thika on Tuesday held a peaceful demonstration to protest against insecurity.

The women and men walked to the Thika Level Five Hospital mortuary where they had gone to collect the body of a colleague for burial.

Their spokesperson Mr Barrack Ondiek said one of their colleagues, Catherine Njeri, was strangled last week by unknown assailants.

“We found her dead on the street in the morning,” said Rose Wairimu, calling for protection from the government.

With the hearse in tow, the group identifying themselves as Kenya Sex Workers Alliance held a procession through Thika town to the District Commissioner’s office.
