Survey the attitude of rapid human immunodeficiency virus antibody test after use the rapid test kit and consulting among male homosexuals in Taiwan

Objectives: This study was aimed to release the attitude about HIV/AIDS rapid test among male homosexuals after having the test and consulting. Through the survey to analyze the factors in have the rapid test. As a result, we could make projects to raise the testing rate and using rate among male homosexuals in the further.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted at Red Building where male homosexuals gather in Northern Taiwan. The project was carried out during September and December 2007.We set a booth to provide rapid HIV/AIDS rapid test and consulting. Every questionnaire was collected by training social worker students.

Result: A total of 588 men completed the questionnaire. Mean of sample age is 28 years old. Among these 588 male homosexuals, there are 361 men had any kind of HIV/AIDS test (61.4%).Must of them had college or university degree, there are 386 men also account for 65.9%. The result of ANOVA test, condom using timing(F=2.82,P-value=0.01), whether or not live(F=6.18,P-value=>0.01),have class (F=3.98,P-value=0.01),dinner (F=3.14,P-value=0.04) with PLWHA have significant effect to raise the attitude of using rapid test. The correlation analysis shows, age (r=-0.12,P-value=>0.01;r=-0.12,P-value=>0.01) has a significant correlation with the attitude of agree the consulting, had used rapid test could raise the pleasure of having rapid test. Age (r=0.13, P-value=>0.01) also has a significant correlation with the positive thinking in the promotion of the test among male homosexuals.

Conclusions: The habit of using condom, the stand of living with PLWHA, and the basic knowledge of HIV/AIDS may should be weight in prevention education.
