To identify the prevalent subtypes and study the genetic variation of HIV-1 circulated in the HIV-infections in Harbin City, China. 47 samples about the env V3-V4 region were successfully sequenced and analyzed, which contained 31 men who have sex with men (MSM), 8 heterosexuals, 7 former plasma donors (FPD)/blood transfusion recipients (BT), and 1 injection drug users (IDUs). And 46.8% CRF01_AE, 40.4% subtype B and 12.8% CRF07_BC were identified. CRF01_AE (64.5%) were the dominant strains in MSM, and subtype B (81.2%) was the chief strain in other infected subjects except MSM population. Among all genotypes, B subtype owns the most diversity of tetramer on tip of V3 loop than CRF07_BC and CRF01_AE, in which the peculiar GWGR was found commonly. CRF01_AE is seemingly presenting the further increased trend among HIV-infections from the point view of nationwide, a consecutive surveillance campaign was necessary among all HIV vulnerable populations in this locality.
