Serbian LGBT Rights Group Asks Orthodox Church Leader Help To Stop Anti-Gay Violence

A Serbian LGBT rights group has requested assistance from the Patriarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church to help curb violence against member of the Serbia’s LGBT community.

In a statement aimed at the spiritual leader of Eastern Orthodox Serbs, Patriarch Irinej, Serbia’s Gay Lesbian Info Center (GLIC) said, “GLBT (Gay Lesbian Bisexual Trans-gender) population in Serbia is facing violence every day and that a majority of people who are committing this violence justify it with their beliefs and the teachings of the Serbian Orthodox Church.”
