On Monday, August 23, Moscow Pride Organizers filed a complaint against Russia at the European Court of Human Rights following last year’s ban of two pickets asking for the resignation of Moscow’s Northern District Prefect, Oleg Mitvol. The bans were upheld by local courts in first instance and in appeal.

The two demos scheduled a year ago, on August 24, aimed to denounce the Prefect’s campaign to close Moscow’s Oldest Gay Club, "Body and Soul". One was supposed to take place in front of the Prefect’s head office.

17 additional applications concerning the protest were declined. Organizers were not provided with any alternate location.
