Project concerning prostitution in Paris and its surroundings

Background: The law concerning the inner security (18/3/2003) forces the sexworkers to change their way and place of work; 30-40% chose to work indoor (massage palours, nightclubs, flats). They contact their clients by advertising.
Passive solicitation is the biggest problem of this law because it´s subjective. We noted that those who chose to work outdoor are working in isolated places in order to avoid police controls. This isolation makes HIV/STD prevention very difficult.

Methods: PASTT developped a mobile prevention programme for outdoor working sexworkers. We visit the places they work and distribute prevention materiel.
Results: We have met 2 296 different outdoor sexworkers with whom we had 18 399 contacts in 2007.

Concerning the indoor working persons, we have been in contact with 362 sex workers, 64% women, 8% tranvestites and 28% transgenders.

Conclusions: Repression against sexworkers makes them more vulnerable vis-a-vis AIDS and agressions.
