Our inner faces
Our Project takes place in a darkroom known as “La Casita” (The Little House), targeted for to gay citizens and MSM in the Monterrey metroplex, at one of the most self-righteousness states in our country, Mexico. Our mission has been to provide a space to freely interact sexually, without any biases or discrimination from the institutionalized, official and business homophobia.
"La Casita" is a Project initially funded by the State’s AIDS Committee, which still provide us with up to 8,000 condoms for distribution among men attending this place to have sexual encounters with other men. State’s Government supports us financially and with condoms for distribution. Our goal is to provide them to actual users with FACE-to-face information on sexuality, std’s, early HIV detection and stigmatization and discrimination awareness actions for PLWHIV/AIDS, as well as actions to avoid and lessen any kind of homophobia and discriminatory actions directed to our gay community, through multimedia materials created for the gay community at this place, in order to end with any lack of information.
For more than 8 years, our work has been directed to young gay people, MSM, PLWA, intra-venous drug users and IVDU, providing counseling and scientifically-based information through various media adapted to their interests and needs. Project consists of providing condoms at the darkroom place. We have distributed more than 50,000 condoms a year, with similar amount of interventions, counseling and information on sex.
Our challenge has been not only to distribute condoms but to establish a communication link on sexual health and civil rights. This project was heavily criticized from the Government to the actual gay community, but now it became a community center with up to 18,000 attendees a year.
