Gay men and other men involved in penetrative anal intercourse are worried about sexual transmission of HIV and would be ready to try any products that would help prevent HIV infection during anal sex.
That was the finding from a six-month study conducted by a research team from the clinical sciences division of the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) and presented at the 5th Microbicides Conference, held in New Delhi, India.
“ Our basic objectives were to determine the sexual behaviour of Nigerian gay men, evaluate the acceptability of rectal microbicides among this group as well as access their willingness to participate in a rectal microbicide trial”, says Dr. Oliver Ezechi who led the NIMR research team.
