100 MSM in 6-Month Study in Nanjing
During only 6 months of follow-up in a study of almost 400 men who have sex with men (MSM) in Nanjing, China, 2.4% tested for HIV picked up the virus. Multiple sex partners and casual sex raised the risk of new (incident) HIV infection.
Nanjing is a city of almost 8 million people in eastern China. Starting in May 2007, researchers recruited 397 MSM without HIV infection. Men answered questionnaires about HIV risk factors and were asked to return 6 months after their first visit for HIV testing.
