PUNE: Nearly 100 people participated in the ‘gay pride march’ in the city on Sunday to demand the rights of homosexual communities. The rally was organized by Samapathik, a men’s sexual health organization here.

"We had organized this rally to mark the 10 years of our fight for the rights of homosexuals," said Bindumadhav Khire, president of Samapathik.

The rally started around 10 am from the orgnisation’s office in Budhwar Peth, and went to Shaniwarwada via Laxmi Road and returned. Around 100 people from the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community participated in the rally.

"People laugh at us. Many do not understand our sentiments. This leads to frustration among the people who support homosexuality," Khire said.

Negligence by the society has created a lot of issues for these communities, Khire said. Some of them become addicts, some enter into the world of crime, while some others indulge in wrong sexual practices and suffer from disease like HIV, he added.
