Help the Global Fund improve HIV services for MSM!
Do you believe in equal access to high-quality HIV services for all? Are you concerned that men who have sex with men in your country don’t have access to the services and information they need? Then keep reading and take action!
In a new effort to identify barriers to services for different populations, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM) is requesting Country Coordinating Mechanisms (CCMs) and Principal Recipients to identify, analyze, report and act on health inequities that affect GFATM programs and national health responses. Detailed in a recent Guidance Note to Global Fund stakeholders, the new Equity Assessment process must accompany all new grant applications for Round 11 (deadline: December 15, 2011) and all renewal applications of previously funded grants.
Learn More via Webinar!
To help MSM advocates and others better understand the new Equity Assessment process, the MSMGF will be hosting a webinar on September 15, 2011 at 6 AM PDT. The webinar will feature details about how the new process works, including information on how you can use the process to improve HIV services for MSM in your country. Sign up for the webinar here!
The Guidance Note is directed at CCMs and Principle Recipients, the GFATM’s two core structures at the country level – it is up to MSM advocates to hold these bodies accountable for examining the needs of local MSM in the assessment process. There are a number of ways you can get involved:
- Request Equity Assessment Workshops: Contact your CCM to request that they organize Equity Assessment workshops that engage gay men and other MSM. You can find contact information for your local CCM by searching for your country at http://portfolio.theglobalfund.org/en/Home/Index.
- Participate in Equity Assessment Workshops: Join local Equity Assessment Workshops to provide your CCM with information about health inequities and barriers experienced by MSM in your country.
- Report Your Experience with Equity Assessment: As the Equity Assessment process rolls out in your country, the MSMGF invites you contact us with stories about (a) the challenges and (b) the successes you are experiencing. While the MSMGF may not be able to take any remedial action, your feedback will be used for future advocacy purposes on behalf of MSM worldwide. Please send your emails to EquityAssessment@msmgf.org.
Please circulate this note to any interested colleagues. We hope you will join us for the webinar and write us about your experience with the new process! Any questions can be directed to EquityAssessment@msmgf.org.
