Fighting Discrimination in Latin America: the “anti­homophobia, lesbophobia, transphobia Guidelines”

Background
Homophobia is defined by experts as the intolerance and despise to the persons that have sexual preferences different to the heterosexual: gays, lesbians, bisexuals, transgender, transvestites and transsexuals.
• Widespread homophobia is posing a critical challenge to the AIDS response.
• Urgent need for joint efforts to reduce and end discrimination, violence and criminalization based on sexual orientation.
• Environment of isolation and exclusion prevents people from seeking vital HIV­ related information and health services.
