The Holyoke Council on Aging will show the documentary "Gen Silent" at the Holyoke Senior Center on Wednesday.
The documentary features six LGBT seniors living in Boston, highlights how they deal – and often conceal – their gender identity and/or sexual orientation to ensure care in the healthcare and long-term care systems.
"Their surprising decisions are captured through intimate access to their day-to-day lives over the course of a year," states the film’s about page. "It puts a face on what experts in the film call an epidemic: gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender older people so afraid of discrimination by caregivers or bullying by other seniors that many simply go back into the closet."
