CLASP group forms for LGBT asylum seekers

 More than a dozen clergy from various denominations showed their support of LGBT refugees and asylum seekers during a March 6 press conference announcing the launch of CLASP, the Chicago LGBT Asylum Support Program.

Rev. Lois Parr of Broadway United Methodist Church hosted the press conference at her North Broadway church. In addition to Parr, those who spoke were:
— Dennis Ojiyoma Akpona — Asylum seeker from Nigeria: Co-founder of the Center for Courageous Living and CLASP
— John Ademola Adewoye — Permanent resident through asylum/ Asylee Service provider: Co-founder of the Center for Courageous Living and CLASP
— Victor Aweke — International HIV and human rights advocate, recently moved from Nigeria and is seeking asylum in the U.S.
— Andy Thayer — Co-founder, Gay Liberation Network
— Rachelle Brown from the Metropolitan Community Church movement
