Amid Uncertainty Freedom and Roam Uganda Launches Hate No More Campaign

Published: August 2, 2011

While members of Freedom and Roam Uganda (FARUG) are shaken by the break in and robbery at their offices, FARUG director Kasha Jacqueline says the Hate No More Campaign will go forward as planned. The campaign launches on 10 August before the possible reintroduction of the Anti-Homosexuality Bill in Uganda’s Parliament by far-right extremists.

According to the Event Page for the Hate No More Campaign:

Time to go out to the masses and educate them about our existence and also call for their tolerance and understanding of sexuality and sexual orientation issues. We are calling for an end to HATE towards the LGBT community. Lots of information materials to hand out, speeches and lovely t-shirts. Volunteers are welcome.

Kasha Jacqueline also provided the following update about the robbery:

I wish to update you on the developments of the burglary at Freedom and Roam Uganda (FARUG) office last Saturday. The Police with the help of our lawyers finally came to the crime scene and started investigations. Finger prints were also recorded. They said they were high chances of tracing the criminals because of the rare kind of Acid that they had. We are still wondering whether it was just a normal robbery or a targeted one.4 days before the robbery Sexual Minorities Uganda (SMUG) offices were broken into. Good there was someone at the offices and so they didn’t access the main building.

    Previously:

Its with great sadness that I write to inform you that FARUG offices were broken into on Saturday night. 5 computers, 2 printers, server, microwave and some docs including the members electronic database were stolen. A jerrican of Acid , 1 computer , all paddlocks filled with Acid and a huge metallic pipe where left in the compound. The office lines were also taken and thus we shall only be able to be contacted on our personal phones and the office mobile hotline on +256 (0) 771840233. We are however glad that no one was at office at the time of the robbery and thus no physical  human damage was caused.
