A court in Marrakesh, Morocco, sentenced two university students to three months in prison earlier this week, according to the website of Aswat Magazine, which serves the LGBT community of Morocco.

The men were arrested for having a “feminine appearance.”

Each of them was also fined 500 Moroccan dirhams (about US $61).

According to newspaper reports, one of the students has a master’s degree and is pursuing postgraduate studies in law; the other is in his second year in science and technology studies at the Semlalia Faculty of Sciences in Marrakesh, Aswat reported.

In Morocco, homosexuality arrests that are based entirely on a person’s appearance are not new, Aswat said.
